Andrew K. Reynolds

Andrew K. Reynolds has been a significant part of this project from the start. Of the cartoons in this collection, twenty nine are dedicated to him personally. He was born on September 28, 1889 and he died on January 5, 1961. He was a member of the Armed Forces during the first world war and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

It is believed that later in his life he served as the editor of the Washington Post, which is how he came to know many of the artists featured in this collection. We believe that the previous director of the James Monroe Museum and Memorial Library acquired Mr. Reynolds collection after his death at an estate stale, which would explain how all the dedicated cartoons became housed at the museum.
