The Historic 1940 Election

The 1940 Presidential election was an extremely heated contest.  Incumbant Franklin D. Roosvelt ran as the Democratic candidate for a third term against Republican newcower Wendell Wilkie.  Many Americans were torn between the discomfort of having a President serve a third term and the comfort and security of continuity in the face of the onset of WWII.  Each of the cartoons in this exhibit focus on the tensions surronding the 1940 Presidential election.
